About Judges

The selection of judges is very important to the Julyamsh Powwow.  The head judges are selected by the Julyamsh  Powwow Committee.  The two  head judges, man & woman,  must have knowledge of the contest dances and the songs that will be sung. The head judges choose other judges (usually five) from the spectators, dancers or singers participating in the Julyamsh Powwow. Each dancer, at some time in his/her life, must have been a singer or dancer and be knowledgeable about the rules and regulations of the contest.

The Arena Director organizes all Grand Entries and makes sure that the arena is clear.  He controls the order of dancing and dancers; making sure they are lined up for the judges to review.  It's his sole responsibility to control the arena and the flow of the contest, making sure that everything is running efficiently.
The head drum judge is responsible for selecting different judges for each contest session and settling disputes over scoring.

He should be looking for the drum area being clean, and also that the drummers are punctual when called upon to drum and that the songs they are singing are the correct songs for the selected dance.
